Queen visits RAF Cosford for Diamond Jubilee pageant

Queen

The Queen has visited Shropshire to attend a pageant as part of her UK Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, she arrived for the event at RAF Cosford at 12:00 BST.

The royal party toured the RAF Museum and airfield before watching the procession. About 20,000 people attended.

More than 5,000 children and a number of voluntary groups took part in the parade.

'Treasure the memory'

After unveiling a plaque to commemorate her visit, the Queen was presented with flowers by four-year-old Chloe Willis.

The youngster's father is a serviceman normally based at Cosford but currently stationed in the Falkland Islands.

Chloe's mother Sharron said: "It's wonderful for her and I am so proud that she did really well, she is only four but I am sure she will treasure that memory forever."

There was a musical programme of events and a display of work from the different groups in the Showcase Hangar.

The Reignbow procession also involved schoolchildren and different Shropshire businesses and organisations.

Each colour of the Reignbow represented each decade of the Queen's reign and brought to life significant events in Shropshire's history over the past 60 years.

The Queen had not visited the county since 2010.
