Man dies after Telford flat fire

A man has died following a fire at a first-floor flat in Shropshire.

Police said they were called to the property in Brunel Road, Telford, at 02:36 BST, where a man was trapped.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said a man in his 50s was unconscious when he was brought out by firefighters "and died a short time later at the scene".

They added they were keeping an open mind as investigations were conducted with the fire service at the end terrace property.

Three appliances, from Telford, Tweedale and Wellington, were deployed to the scene and the fire was brought under control by about 03:05 BST.
