Diamond Jubilee marked on River Severn

About 30 boats took part in the Shrewsbury River Festival flotilla as part of the town's Jubilee celebrations

Shrewsbury's River Festival has been at the centre of the Shropshire Jubilee celebrations.

The town featured its own flotilla of boats with up to 30 vessels making their way from Frankwell footbridge to Kingsland bridge.

As part of the festival, swimmer and Britain's Got Talent finalist Zoe Cooper was at Quarry park.

The aim was to raise awareness of river safety and encourage people to make better use of the Severn.

The day also featured coracle races, kayak demonstrations, live music and drop-in workshops.

Graham Galliers, one of the organisers, said the weather had meant a "disappointing" turnout, although they had been encouraged to organise a similar event next year.

About 300 people turned out to watch the flotilla as it made its way down river and Mr Galliers said he hoped up to 2,000 people would visit the festival across the day.

Elsewhere a community picnic was organised at Bridgnorth's Severn Park, while in Whittington villagers shared a Big Jubilee Lunch at the castle.

In Cressage, about 150 villagers took part in a parade followed by a Royal Afternoon Street Party, which was relocated to the village hall due to the weather.
