Hundreds of fans have turned out to celebrate Shrewsbury Town's promotion to League One with an open-top bus parade.

Last weekend the club secured automatic promotion from League Two with a 1-0 win at home to Dagenham and Redbridge.

In 1979, manager Graham Turner also guided Shrewsbury to the old Division Two in his first spell at the club.

The players left the Greenhouse Meadow at 12:30 BST for a tour of the town.

The bus took them to the Frankwell Riverside car park in front of the Guildhall in Frankwell for a celebration with fans at 13:00 BST.

Frankwell was also where the club chose to celebrate promotion from the Conference in 2004.

Players and staff from the club also attended a civic reception at Shirehall hosted by Shropshire Council and the mayor of Shrewsbury.

Turner said before the parade: "To be able to go around Shrewsbury and celebrate our wonderful achievement with all our supporters will be a fitting end to a successful season."
