Shrewsbury Town FC will celebrate promotion to League One with an open-top bus parade in the town on Sunday.

Last weekend the club secured automatic promotion from League Two with a 1-0 win at home to Dagenham and Redbridge.

In 1979, manager Graham Turner also guided Shrewsbury to the old Division Two in his first spell at the club.

The players are due to leave the Greenhous Meadow at 12:30 BST for a tour of the town before arriving at the Guildhall in Frankwell at 13:00 BST.

Thousands of fans are expected to join in the celebrations in Frankwell, before the bus continues to a civic reception at Shirehall.

Frankwell was also where the club chose to celebrate promotion from the Conference in 2004.

Leader of Shropshire Council Keith Barrow said: "We've had to plan it pretty quickly as you can imagine, because there is a limited window of opportunity when the team is all together.

"It's really to give the town and the county... the opportunity to turn up and say well done."

Graham Turner said: "It is a great gesture from Shropshire Council and Shrewsbury Town Council to host this civic reception and parade for the club.

"To be able to go around Shrewsbury and celebrate our wonderful achievement with all our supporters will be a fitting end to a successful season."

Frankwell's short-stay car park will be closed to traffic on Sunday morning. No other road closures are expected to take place.
