'Inadequate' after-school club closed

Guideposts website Guideposts runs after-school clubs at schools across the county

An Oxfordshire after-school club for children with learning disabilities has been closed after it was rated "inadequate" for a second time.

Ofsted said its registration of Guideposts Trust club at Kingfisher School in Abingdon had been suspended following an inspection.

The watchdog found staff had failed to report an allegation of abuse or to act promptly on concerns.

It also said the club had allowed unchecked staff to work with children.

A "welfare requirements notice" has been issued, meaning steps must to be taken to improve.

Guideposts Trust provides the after-school and holiday schemes at Kingfisher School for pupils from three to 19 years old.

There are 52 children with special educational needs registered there.

Ofsted's report also said the risk assessment procedures were not robust enough to prevent children leaving the premises.

The BBC has attempted to contact Guideposts Trust, but has yet to receive a response.

Our reporter Serena Martin is outside the John Radcliffe Hospital with staff on the picket line this morning.

One striker told her: "My wage is £8 per hour which has taken 12 years to get. Inflation is going up but my wages don't."
