Woman dies after hit being hit by a fire engine in Oxford

An elderly woman who was struck by a fire engine in Oxford has died.

The 79-year-old was hit in Cowley Road shortly before 16:00 BST on Friday and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Thames Valley Police said the woman died later that day.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said the fire engine, which is based at the Rewley Road fire station, was heading to an incident in Blackbird Leys when the woman was knocked down.

A spokesman for the service said: "Our thoughts are with the victim's family following this tragic incident."

Police, who previously said the woman was in her fifties, are appealing for witnesses.
