A man armed with an axe has carried out a robbery at a betting shop in Oxfordshire.

The offender went into the Coral Racing shop in Wesley Lane, Bicester, at about 20:30 GMT on Thursday, and demanded cash.

Police said a member of staff handed him "a quantity of cash" before he ran away.

A 22-year-old man, from Carterton, has been arrested in connection with the robbery and remains in police custody.

It is not known if the offender threatened the member of staff, with what has been described as a "small" axe, or whether there were any injuries.

Thames Valley Police said it was exploring whether the robbery was linked to other robberies of commercial premises in Oxfordshire.
