Residents jump to safety from Blackbird Leys house fire

Mallard Close, Oxford The residents of the house in Mallard Close jumped from an upstairs window to escape the fire

Five people have escaped from a house fire, which police believe was started deliberately, by jumping from a first floor window.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Mallard Close, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, at 02:45 GMT.

A 33-year-old man sustained a broken leg in the jump. All five people were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.

Fire and crime officers are investigating at the scene.

The four other residents - two men, aged 27 and 48, and two women, aged 20 and 27 - all sustained non life threatening injuries.
