Mobility scooter man dies after falling into Thames

South Street at Osney The man was swept down the River Thames at Osney

A man on a mobility scooter has died after falling into the River Thames when trying to pass a flooded pathway.

The 47-year-old was pulled from Osney Lock, west of Oxford, on Saturday evening but died at the scene.

Police said his death was being treated as unexplained.

Supt Christian Bunt, from Thames Valley Police, said the incident highlighted the dangers of using flooded pathways, especially along the River Thames.

He added: "I urge anyone using these areas to take extra caution."

A flood alert is currently in place for the Osney area.
