Woman on double murder charge after 1997 Oxford fire

A woman has been charged with two counts of murder more than 16 years after a house fire in Oxford in which two children died.

Fiaz Munshi, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was arrested on Tuesday for questioning about the blaze in Magdalen Road, on 26 August 1997.

Majid Khan, 15, and eight-year-old Anum Khan died as a result of the fire.

Ms Munshi, 38, from Manley Road, appeared before magistrates in Oxford earlier and was remanded in custody.

She will reappear at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

In a statement, the Khan family thanked police involved in the arrest and said they hoped justice would be done.
