Man arrested after teenager raped at Oxford hotel

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a 19-year-old woman was attacked in an Oxford hotel.

The woman said a man approached her in the street and took her to the Victoria House Hotel in George Street where she was raped early on Tuesday.

She reported the crime to police at about 05:20 BST yesterday.

A 29-year-old man from Oxford was later arrested and is being held in custody. Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Thames Valley Police said CCTV images show the woman walking in Cornmarket Street at about 02:30 BST where she approached a group of men and women and started talking to them.

The group, who are all believed to be white and in their late teens or early 20s, walked with her to the junction with Broad Street where they got into a taxi and left her on the street.

The woman said she was then approached by the man.

Det Con Ian D'Angeli said: "We urge anyone from the group of young people on Cornmarket Street to get in touch, as they might have vital information."
