A train driver has been left shaken after a First Great Western train was hit with a block of wood on the Paddington to Cardiff line in Berkshire.
British Transport Police said the block was thrown from a bridge near Lower Basildon.
It smashed the window and lodged in the cab door. Passengers left the train at Didcot Parkway in Oxfordshire.
Officers said the incident could have had "catastrophic consequences."
