Man arrested in Oxford over terrorism fundraising

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Oxford on suspicion of fundraising for terrorism.

He was arrested at an undisclosed address and is being questioned at a police station in the Thames Valley area.

Police said: "This arrest relates to the investigation of activity overseas and there is no perceived threat to the local community."

He is also being held on suspicion of failing to disclose information.

Supt Christian Bunt, from Thames Valley Police, said: "I would like to reassure the community that this investigation should have very little impact on local residents.

"The arrest was pre-planned and was not made in response to any immediate threat to public safety in Oxford."

The man is being questioned by officers from the South East Counter Terrorism Unit.

He was arrested on suspicion of fundraising for the purposes of terrorism, contrary to Section 15 of The Terrorism Act 2000, and on suspicion of failing to disclose information in order to make a gain for yourself/another, contrary to Section 3 of the Fraud Act 2006.
