Oxford shoplifter left shoes behind

The thief wore a distinctive hooded top

A shoplifter in Oxford was in such a hurry to escape from a supermarket - he ran off without his shoes.

The thief, branded "a modern day Cinderella" by police, was trying to steal whisky from Sainsbury's at Heyford Hill.

He put three bottles into his trolley before covering them with a hooded top.

But he was chased by staff as he left the shop and his gold-trimmed black Nike Air training shoes came off as he fled.

Police said the man is about 5ft 9ins tall and slim.

They appealed for any witnesses to the incident on 10 November to come forward.

Detective Inspector John Kemsley said: "The hooded top this man was wearing was quite distinctive, so we know someone will recognise him."
