Appeal after Wolvercote canal house boat fire

An investigation has begun into the cause of a fire which tore through a house boat in Oxford.

The blaze broke out in the vessel, moored on the canal in Wolvercote near to the Peartree Roundabout, at about 23:00 GMT.

Police said the emergency services were alerted to the blaze after receiving reports from the public that someone had set the boat on fire.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Ch Insp Andy Bird, leading the investigation, said: "We are currently working closely with the fire service to establish the full circumstances surrounding how the fire happened."
