Fire at Fawler Manor destroys part of roof

The damaged roof of Fawler Manor The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious

Eighty firefighters have battled a blaze which "spread rapidly" across the roof of an Oxfordshire manor house.

Fire crews from Berkshire and Oxfordshire were called to Fawler Manor, near Wantage, at 15.25 BST on Saturday after the family living there raised the alarm.

The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

A section of the roof was destroyed but no-one was hurt.

A spokesman said the flames had been "spreading rapidly" but firefighters managed to stop the blaze from burning through the whole roof.

"Crews were on the scene throughout the evening, damping down and carrying out salvage work," he said.
