CCTV captures Abingdon's bungling robber

James Allan needed help from staff to open the door to leave

CCTV footage of a bungling robber who removed his balaclava and fell over while attempting to make his escape from a newsagents has been released.

James Allan's failed raid on Martin's newsagent in Northcourt Road, Abingdon, Oxfordshire, took place on 2 March.

He had also tried to rob the same shop 10 days earlier.

Police released the video after Allan, 29, of no fixed address, was given two and a half years at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday for the first robbery.

The video shows Allan attempting to push the door to exit instead of pulling it.

He then tries to kick his way out, but stumbles and falls back over a container of drinks.

Eventually a woman, who had earlier been held up with a toy gun during the robbery, opens the door to let him out.

Allan is already serving three years in prison having been sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on 2 July for the offence shown in the video.

In July, he pleaded guilty to the possession of a firearm or imitation firearm, for which he was sentenced to two years.

All his sentences will run concurrently.
