Police have been granted more time to question a woman arrested on suspicion of murder in Oxford.

The 29-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday at an address in Friars Wharf, where the body of a 52-year-old woman was found.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place on Saturday.

Police were called to the city centre property of the dead woman on Thursday morning after "concerns for the welfare of an occupant".

Her next of kin have been informed.

Det Ch Insp Vince Grey said: "We are still in the early stages of the investigation and, with enquiries ongoing and a person in custody, we do not wish to speculate on the cause of the woman's death or the circumstances surrounding it."
