Driver reported after lorry overturns on M40 in Oxfordshire

A driver has been reported for careless driving after his lorry overturned and spilled its load on the M40 motorway.

The northbound carriageway between junctions 9 and 10 in Oxfordshire was shut for nearly two hours on Monday evening after the vehicle crashed.

It was carrying 2,000 litres of silicone fluid, some of which spilled onto the carriageway.

The 51-year-old driver must now wait to hear whether he will face charges, a fine or no further action.

Following the incident, at about 17:45 BST, he was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital. Thames Valley Police said his injuries were not life threatening.

Traffic was diverted via the A34 Weston-on-the-Green and B430 through Middleton Stoney and Ardley, causing miles of tailbacks.

One lane was reopened at about 19:30 BST to help ease congestion while the lorry was recovered. The motorway was completely reopened at 04:40 BST on Tuesday.
