Ensar Gol must serve at least 36 years for double murder

Gol was caught on CCTV while carrying a knife, after committing the double murder

A man who stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death in Oxfordshire must serve a minimum of 36 years in prison.

Ensar Gol, 22, repeatedly stabbed his 28-year-old wife Michala at their home in Thame on 4 September, 2011.

Her mother Julie Sahin, 50, and friend Casey Wilson, tried to defend her but were both knifed, Mrs Sahin fatally.

Gol denied two counts of murder and one of attempted murder but was convicted after a trial at Oxford Crown Court and jailed for life.

He had sent a Facebook message saying "wild Turkish wolf ready to slit their throats", prior to the murders, jurors heard.

Gol, of Ireton Court, repeatedly stabbed his wife in the neck in a bedroom in front of their three-year-old daughter, the court heard.

'Hardest thing'

Mrs Sahin and Miss Wilson, 20, tried to pull him away but Miss Wilson fell over and was stabbed by Gol, before fleeing the house to call police, the court heard.

The Turkish national was then caught on CCTV holding his daughter under his arm while carrying the murder weapon in the town's High Street, before being arrested by officers.

Passing sentence, Judge Supperstone said: "The pain and suffering you have caused to the family will plainly be long lasting and with them for the remainder of their lives.

"You say you were unhappy here and didn't get on with your mother-in-law. I totally reject any suggestion that anything she said or did provides you with any mitigation."

Following the sentence Miss Wilson, described giving evidence in the trial as the "hardest thing I have ever had to do".

"Julie was my friend and confidante," she told the court. "She was kind and caring and nothing like the person the defence tried to portray her as."

Mrs Sahin's husband, Mehmet, said: "It breaks my heart that the children and I will never see Julie or Michala again."

'Great courage'

In a statement Mrs Sahin's brothers Wade and Patrick Anderson said the lives of their family had been changed "forever".

They described Mrs Sahin as a "wonderful and special daughter and sister who doted on her grandchildren" and Michala, as a "beautiful young mother who only ever wanted the best for her young children".

Outside court, Det Ch Insp Joe Kidman praised the "great courage" of Miss Wilson and Mr Sahin, for giving evidence and the dignity of the victims families throughout the trial.

During the trial the court heard how Gol met his wife while she was on holiday in Turkey.
