The new Oxford Half Marathon has been won by James Bellward from Crawley Athletic Club in a time of one hour 11 minutes and three seconds.

The women's race was won by two-time Olympian Liz Yelling who was running the race as part of her build-up to qualification for next years Olympics.

Yelling, 37, who is based in Dorset, completed the course in a time of one hour 14 minutes and 40 seconds.

She said the event had the potential to attract tens of thousands of people.

Bellward said he had been training six days a week for the run and his time was a personal best.

"It's the biggest win I've ever had on a half marathon. I've never won a big one like this before. I'm so pleased to win," he said.

Around 2,000 people took part in the 13.1 mile race through the city.
