A man has been found dead along with a woman with life-threatening injuries in a suspected shooting at a Nottinghamshire house.

Two children were also discovered at the home in Galway Road, Bircotes, near Doncaster, shortly before 01:00 GMT.

Nottinghamshire Police said the children were unharmed and were safely removed.

The 37-year-old man and 33-year-old woman, who both lived at the home, suffered suspected shotgun injuries.

Police said the man was found dead in a bedroom and the woman was found with "potentially life-threatening" injuries in the early hours of Friday.

Her condition is now said to be serious but stable.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death of the man, who is believed to have lived at the address with the injured woman.

Shocked neighbours said police were rarely seen in the area because "there was no need".
