Police searching for missing schoolboy Ciaran Sweeney have discovered a body in a quarry.

The 14-year-old was reported missing from his home in Mansfield's Oak Tree estate in Nottinghamshire on 14 September.

Officers discovered a body at 10:15 BST, in Ratcher Hill quarry, in Southwell Road, Mansfield.

Police have said the family have been told of the developments but a formal identification has yet to take place.

Despite an appeal by his family and a number of possible sightings in the area, Ciaran has not made contact over the past two weeks.

Police said they had been carrying out extensive house-to-house inquires, alongside searches of gardens and outbuildings.

Staff at Samworth Church Academy described Ciaran as a "pleasant, academically bright, hardworking student".

He was last seen wearing a black coat with a hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
