A serious case review is to be carried out after a Nottinghamshire couple were jailed for the rape and indecent assault of three young girls.

Robert and Rita Oldham, aged 53 and 51, from Clipstone, Mansfield, sexually abused the girls between 1993 and 2006.

In February they were jailed for 20 and six years respectively.

Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board said the review would examine if there were ways in which the service could be improved.

Sentencing, Judge John Milmo described their crimes as "a catalogue of depravity".

The county council has confirmed its social care department had contact with the couple.

Chris Few, chair of the Nottinghamshire Safeguarding Children Board, said: "(I) have commissioned a serious case review.

"This will examine the circumstances surrounding the case and identify whether there are ways in which services may be improved to reduce the risk of future harm to children."

The review has to be completed within six months.
