Driver arrested after cyclist injured in Long Eaton

A driver has been arrested after a cyclist was injured in a crash involving a van which was being followed by police.

The crash happened in Harlaxton Drive at the junction with Nottingham Road in Long Eaton at about 00:00 GMT.

Officers had been following the van for about 20 minutes after the driver began acting suspiciously, police said.

A man has been arrested for dangerous driving, failing a roadside breath test and failing to stop.

The 23-year-old cyclist has non-life threatening injuries and the van driver has received medical treatment for head injuries, police said.

Nottingham Road has been closed at the junction of Station Road in Long Eaton and High Road in Toton while investigations are carried out.

The crash has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Nottinghamshire Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.
