A 26-year-old man has died in a crash which happened as a stolen car was being followed by police in Nottinghamshire.

The man, from Aspley, died at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham after the car left the road in Moor Lane, Calverton, on Monday night.

Nottinghamshire Police said the case had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

No-one else was hurt in the crash, which happened at 23:00 GMT.

A police spokesperson said: "Due to a police vehicle being in close proximity to the stolen car prior to the crash, we have referred it to the IPCC to assess the full circumstances."

Moor Lane was closed while investigations took place, a force spokesman said.
