A man has been charged with the death of a former Nottingham woman murdered in Australia.

Sally Brooks, originally from Stapleford, died in hospital after being assaulted at her Melbourne home.

The 48-year-old emigrated 16 years ago but since getting divorced had sold her house and was preparing to return to Nottingham with her three children.

Robert Meade appeared at Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with her murder.

He did not enter a plea during the hearing and is due to appear at the same court on 1 February.

Ms Brooks was found with head injuries at her home in Limassol Court, Donvale. She died on 11 July.

Police said she was discovered by a neighbour after failing to pick her children up from school.
