Plans for a £24m facelift have been unveiled by a Nottinghamshire college.

West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield wants to build a new teaching block and overhaul current buildings on its Derby Road site.

Plans also include a restaurant for trainee chefs, a creative arts centre, sports hall and a new exterior design.

A consultation has begun, with a planning application to be submitted in June. Work is due to begin in September and be completed by late 2013.

The project has been funded through reserves from the college and commercial ventures.

College principal Asha Khemka said: "It is going to bring a new curriculum in, it is going to bring excitement and a regeneration of Mansfield.

"At last we are in a position to match our outstanding reputation with the buildings and inspirational surroundings we had dreamed about."

Two years ago the college failed to secure government funding to relocate to a green field site.
