The first Nottingham council houses for 20 years have been handed over to their new tenants.
Eight properties in Dartmoor Close, Clifton, were built with funding from the city council and the Homes and Communities Agency.
They have a number of energy efficient features, such as top-rated windows and insulation, and solar panels.
These houses are the first of 31 in progress, with two sites in Bilborough and Bulwell soon to be completed.
Onias Chiutsi and his family were the first to be handed their keys.
Mr Chiutsi said: "This is the best Christmas present we could possibly have.
"We have much more room for the children now and the house has everything we need."
Councillor Dave Liversidge, city council portfolio holder for housing, said: "These new council houses are a valuable addition to the city's housing stock, giving us more of the accommodation that is most needed in the city.
"It is great news that we have completed them early and in time for families to move into the Clifton development before Christmas."
