Queen's Birthday Honours: Kettering hospice fundraiser appointed MBE

A nurse who helped increase the annual amount raised for a Northamptonshire hospice has been appointed MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Diana Patrick, fundraising manager at Cransley Hospice, Kettering, helped raise yearly revenues from £120,000 to £779,000.

The extra money she generated aided an increase in the range of services.

The 56-year-old, from Kettering, was honoured for services to healthcare.

Mrs Patrick, who still works as a qualified nurse at Kettering Hospital, said that hearing of the MBE was a "massive surprise".

She said the funds had been raised during her 13 years at the hospice through "hard work and a massive team of people behind me".

"I am very much the public face [of the fundraising], supported and sustained by a massive team and my husband John."

Other people honoured in Northamptonshire include:

  • Jenny Hirst, 70, of Northampton, who was appointed an MBE for services to people with diabetes after she founded the InDependent Diabetes Trust (IDDT)) in 1986.
  • Foster carers Ronald and Perdita Sawbridge, 79 and 75, of Aynho, who were made MBEs who for services to children and families.
  • David Williams JP, of East Haddon, appointed MBE for services to the community and charity in Northamptonshire.
  • Volunteer David Blagrove, of Stoke Bruerne, appointed MBE for services to restoration of the UK Waterways.
  • Paul Southworth, of Kislingbury, appointed OBE for services to business arts and the community in Northamptonshire.
  • The county's Lord Lieutenant - Lady Juliet Townsend - is made a Dame Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.
