Plans for a 950-seat stand at the 6,000-capacity Northamptonshire cricket ground have been approved.

The project can now go ahead after a £1m loan was offered by the county council in December to help improve facilities at the Wantage Road site.

Northampton Borough Council approved the project, which is set to be completed by April for the new season.

The stand will be alongside the indoor cricket school and is designed to be sympathetic to nearby properties.

Borough council leader David Mackintosh said the club wanted to host matches in the 2017 Women's World Cup.

The county council offered the £1m loan last year when the cricket club said it did not have the resources to fund the new stand on its own.
