A joint police and fire service investigation is under way after flames destroyed a restaurant in Northampton.

Scores of firefighters were sent to the the Red Hot Buffet and Bar in Sixfields Leisure Park at about 23:00 GMT on Wednesday.

A nearby cinema was evacuated and roads closed as a result of the fire - described as 'major' by fire officers.

Terry Considine, of Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, said officers arrived to find the roof ablaze.

Nobody was injured.

A restaurant spokesman said: "No customers were present at the time of the incident and all members of our staff were safely evacuated.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown."

The fire alarm was activated just after 23:00 GMT as staff were closing up at the Red Hot Buffet
