The mother of a seven-week-old boy who died of severe brain injuries told police they must have been inflicted by his father who had been feeding him.

Jamie Kightley suffered more than 40 fractures and died on 17 March, 2012, Nottingham Crown Court was told.

His parents Adam Kightley, 24, and Jacqueline Parker, 21, of London Road, Northampton, have pleaded not guilty to his murder.

They also deny causing or allowing his death.

The court heard statements from Miss Parker, who said she went to sleep while Mr Kightley was feeding their son and when she awoke Jamie was not breathing.

She was asked by police what had happened and told them that if she "did not do it", then it must have been Jamie's father.

But she then added that she was not blaming Mr Kightley.

The court has heard paramedics arrived at the London Road home at about 06:30 GMT and Jamie died about 30 minutes later.

The trial resumes on Monday.
