Cricket fans have been banned from taking alcohol to limited overs matches at the County Ground in Northampton.

Northamptonshire County Cricket Club said it had taken the decision after a fan was attacked during a match with Nottinghamshire earlier this month.

Drinks will continue to be sold within the stadium.

Spectators are still allowed to take up to four cans of beer or cider, or a bottle of wine, to county championship matches.

Northamptonshire Police said a man was arrested following the attack during the 40 overs match on 5 May.

A spokesperson said he had been dealt with via a "community resolution".
