A town in Northamptonshire has announced major structural changes to improve business.

Plans include the pedestrianisation of Gold Street and High Street in Kettering as well as the setting up of a big screen for major events.

The town centre proposals will be discussed at an executive committee meeting on 12 June.

if approved Kettering Borough Council (KBC) said it would go through a 12-month consultation period.

Other proposals include introducing parking charges on London Road and smartening up vacant shops in the town centre.

Councillor Terry Freer said: "If the committee agrees with the plans then we will commit around £190,000 on pedestrianising the whole town centre."

These plans follow the changes made to Kettering in 2009 which included rebuilding the market square and creating a restaurant quarter.
