Boy, 7, dies following Kettering house fire

A seven-year-old boy has died following a house fire in Northamptonshire.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue was called to the house on Edinburgh Road, Kettering, at 07:18 BST.

The boy was taken to Kettering General Hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke but later died.

His parents, a two-year-old child and a third adult managed to escape the blaze. Police said early indications suggested the fire was not suspicious.

Support family

Warren Ellison, station manager at Kettering Fire Station, said: "When crews arrived the parents, a second child and a third adult were outside the property.

"The fire was well developed by this time.

"The street was full of smoke and firefighters made their way into the house after being told by the boy's mother that he was in an upstairs bedroom."

He added that the fire service had been working to support the family following the boy's death.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said an investigation into the cause of the fire was under way.
