A school in a Northamptonshire village where an 11-year-old boy fought off an abduction attempt has stepped up security.

The incident happened on Friday night as the boy made his way along the High Street in Roade.

The Elizabeth Woodville School in the village has now decided to increase patrols around the school.

Police have issued an artist's impression of the suspect, described as white and about 50 years old.

Rob Lyon, assistant head teacher, said: "We have increased the level of staff on the back gate at the end of the day.

"Our local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) will also be patrolling the area at key times."

The school said it has worked with police, staff and students to ensure everyone was fully briefed.

"We have had individual conversations with students who have lunch passes to ensure that they keep vigilant and aware," said Mr Lyon.

The boy told police a man standing by a white Ford Transit van stuck his arm out, blocked his path and told him to get inside.

He said he punched the man in the face and then ran off.

The man is described as white, aged about 50 and of average height and medium build. Police said he was bald and had "big wide eyes".

Northamptonshire Police said it is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
