Stroke Association £100,000 funding cut in Northamptonshire

The Stroke Association in Northamptonshire has said it will be forced to close when £100,000 in county council funding is withdrawn.

The county council said the funding was cut because it has stopped receiving money from the Department of Health.

In future patients would be referred to the Northampton Centre for Independent Living, the council said.

But Simon Cook, of the Stroke Association, said the cuts would remove support for stroke survivors.

"We wrote to all of our clients to let them know the situation. We are trying to pursue alternative funding but once this money runs out we are unsure what will happen," he said.

The funding will stop at the end of April.
