Woman killed as horse 'spooked' in Northamptonshire village

A 28-year-old woman has died after being thrown from her horse in Northamptonshire.

The woman, who has not yet been named by police, was riding with a friend along Sywell Road, Overstone, earlier when the horse became distressed.

Police believe the horse may have been spooked by the noise of the wind through the trees in the area.

The victim, believed to be from Wellingborough, fell into the road and died at the scene from her injuries.

Insp Daemon Johnson, of Northamptonshire Police, said no vehicles were involved and the woman's family has been informed.

The road closed shortly after 11:11 GMT but has since reopened.

Witnesses are asked to contact Northamptonshire Police.
