Smallholders have been warned to be wary of "anyone who suddenly shows an interest in your chickens" after a spate of thefts in south Norfolk.

In 10 incidents over the past two months, 124 chickens have been stolen, Norfolk Police said.

In one theft in Bergh Apton, 30 birds were taken.

Ch Insp Stuart Armes advised chicken keepers to review their security as the force had seen a "significant rise" in thefts of the birds from gardens.

"We would also be interested to hear from anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity, including being offered cheap chickens for eating or breeding," he added.

The thefts are not currently being linked.
