Eaton Primary School was put into special measures after an Ofsted inspection

The head teacher of a Norfolk primary school has been suspended.

Steve Portas, of Eaton Primary School, Norwich, has been suspended pending an investigation into "management issues".

Last month the school was put in special measures after Ofsted inspectors rated it inadequate.

Malcolm Lysons, chairman of governors, said in a statement: "Suspension is to ensure a full and fair investigation can take place in the interests of Mr Portas and the school."

He continued: "I'm working closely with the local authority to ensure the availability of any additional support the school may need in order that the school itself continues to run normally.

"I'm working with the officers of Norfolk County Council to ensure we follow all the correct procedures. However, as this matter is ongoing, I'm not in a position to comment further at this."

In a letter to parents, Mr Lysons wrote: "I can assure you that you do not need to be concerned in any way about your child/children.

"The areas of concern relate purely to management issues and are not connected with the wellbeing of pupils at the school."
