Herbie Hide: Norwich boxer's arrest warrant withdrawn
A warrant issued for the arrest of ex-champion boxer Herbie Hide after he failed to attend court over a drugs charge has been withdrawn.
The 41-year-old from Bawburgh, near Norwich, has been suffering from malaria in Nigeria.
Norwich Crown Court said the warrant had been dropped, as long as he complied with restrictions upon his expected return to the UK in August.
Mr Hide missed a hearing on 11 July prompting the warrant to be issued.
A new date for his plea and case management hearing has not yet been set.Medical note
The boxer is facing allegations of conspiring to supply cocaine after being arrested earlier this year following an undercover investigation by The Sun newspaper.
He was given permission to leave the country at an earlier hearing as part of his bail terms.
Norwich Crown Court said it had received an official medical note from the boxer about his illness.
Mr Hide's co-defendant, Ben Sharman, 22, of Howe Lane, Poringland, Norfolk, has admitted conspiracy to supply a class A drug, offering to supply a class A drug and offering to supply a class B drug.
Mr Sharman, who was remanded in custody, has denied another charge of supplying cocaine to Mr Hide and is due to stand trial in October.
Herbie Hide held the World Boxing Organisation version of the heavyweight title between 1997 and 1999.
