The identities of a man and teenage boy who died in separate quarry lakes at a Norfolk beauty spot have been revealed.

Ryan Pettengell, 41, of Railway Road, King's Lynn, and Umar Balogun, 16, from the Waltham Forest in London died at Bawsey Pits, near King's Lynn.

Their bodies were recovered on Tuesday evening following a major search and rescue operation by emergency services.

Post-mortem examinations carried out on Thursday confirmed the cause of death for both as drowning.

Both had separately been reported getting into difficulties in the water, police said.

Swimming in the lakes, which are deep and thick with undergrowth, is banned, but the warning signs are ignored by many people.

Inquiries continue by police, working with the Health and Safety Executive and King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council, to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Inquests into both deaths will be opened by the coroner in due course, police said.
