Ex-Cromer mayor Greg Hayman 'punched' during election polling

An ex-town mayor has been punched in the neck at a local election polling station in Norfolk.

Greg Hayman was assaulted while taking the numbers of voters as they arrived at the Cromer community centre polling station, North Norfolk Labour Party said.

Norfolk Police said a man was assaulted at about 08:00 BST and was "shaken", but not injured by the attack.

They added no arrests had been made, but officers remained at the scene.

Labour activist Mr Hayman, 54, was Mayor of Cromer in 2011-12.
