Winterwatch: Seals at Blakeney Point Nature Reserve

Record numbers of grey seal pups have been born on Blakeney Point Nature Reserve in Norfolk, taking the size of the colony to possibly more than 1,000 pups for the first time.

One of the biggest colonies in England, the landmark breeding season has been captured for Winterwatch 2013 when, for the first time, a BBC wildlife cameraman was allowed to live in the reserve.

Richard Taylor-Jones said: "Blakeney offered us really intimate access to the seals. I was able to just settle with the animals and get incredibly close and detailed shots of their appearance and natural behaviour.

"We also witnessed, for the first time, the real ferocity of males fighting. It was astonishing to witness the fear and hatred in their eyes."

Winterwatch begins on Monday, 14 January, at 20:30 GMT on BBC Two.
