Norwich father freed from prison after truancy sentence

Help

A single father of nine jailed for his children's truancy said he should have been fined or sentenced to community service.

Over a six-month period one of John Heather's children was only at school for a quarter of the time.

Mr Heather, who lives in Norwich, served two weeks of a one-month sentence.

Councils say they try to work with parents of persistent truants, but if the situation does not improve .. they do take legal action.
