Shell UK pleads guilty over Norfolk gas blast

Shell UK has pleaded guilty in connection with an explosion and fire at a Norfolk gas terminal in 2008.

The Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive brought the joint prosecution against the energy giant.

Shell faced seven charges for breaching environmental and health and safety legislation at Norwich Crown Court.

It followed an explosion and fire at a water treatment plant at the Bacton Gas Terminal in February 2008. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Shell admitted breaching two Health and Safety Regulations and five areas of environmental legislation, including areas of pollution prevention and control.

The firm will be sentenced on 16 June.
