Murder arrest over Richie Williams death in Liverpool

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 64-year-old man found with serious injuries later died.

Richard Williams, known as Richie, was found in the street following reports of an assault in Waterpark Drive, West Derby, Liverpool, at about 04:45 BST.

He was taken to Aintree University Hospital with critical injuries but later died.

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assault has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

Merseyside Police described the incident as "isolated" and said patrols in the area had been increased.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Paying tribute, Mr Williams's family said he was "known throughout the local community for his heart of gold".

The area was cordoned off earlier on Thursday as forensic officers examined the scene.
