A 43-year-old woman was mauled to death by her Staffordshire bull terrier, Merseyside Police have said.

Louise Caygill's body was found in a flat in Macqueen Street, Old Swan in Liverpool at about 10:45 BST on Sunday.

Her death was being treated as unexplained but a post-mortem examination revealed she died from multiple dog bites.

Police went to the flat after a report of concern over her safety. They seized the dog, which has been destroyed.
